It is pretty fast, has pleanty of memory and the print quality is terrific. We have had this printer for a few years. I never had a paper jam or any problem at all. I actually bought a second because it was cheeper than replacing all of the tonors. The best part is that it comes with full versions of all of the different color tonors. The only weird thing is that it randomly goes through some type of a priming procedure that can be a bit loud in the middle of the night.There is a newer model that I would probably buy next time, but there really was nothing wrong with this one. Oh, don't forget it is quite large.

I find printing photos from online services or from WalMart is far less frustrating than dealing with ink jet printers.

(This setting is for people who don't want to mess with stretching out supplies at the cost of declining print quality, or for those who aren't good at spotting when a color is getting thin).But you can turn off this behavior as follows:Page 94 of the User Guide has the following instructions for those who would like to use the toner beyond their replacement time:ConfigurationCartridge Out Override can only be enabled from the printerâ(tm)s control panel menu.1. I think it would help solve the color toner use problem.
I suppose there could be some legitimate reason for this (other than HP just wanting to make more money from people replacing nearly full color toner cartridges), but I can' think of one. Anyway, if you follow the instructions above, you should be able to utilize all the color toner in the cartridges (well AFTER the cartridges say there are zero pages remaining). However, it turns out this is really just an imaginary lose as each toner cartridges individually keep track of how many pages have been printed by the printer and counts down to zero, at which point the printer won't work. Press (RIGHT ARROW) to Print quality and press (SELECT).3. Press (SELECT).If Stop at out is selected, the printer will stop printing when a cartridge reaches therecommended replacement point.
The factory defaultsetting is Stop at out.My color cartridges are at 3452 pages, with no apparent decline in print density--------------------------------------Overall, I have been very happy with this printer. I found the following posted elsewhere on the Internet. The only "drawback" is that the information reported by the printer regarding toner capacity will be useless. Of course since this feature really only keeps track of pages printed rather than toner remaining, it is a pretty useless feature anyway.I only gave this printer 4 stars because1) the replacement cartridges are ridiculously expensive2) the problems with the "disappearing" color toner is a very poor and inexcusable design flaw.
it shouldn't be necessary.3) color photo printing is just OK. nothing like a high quality photo ink jet printer. Plus if you think THIS printer's toner is expensive, the cost per page for ink jets is ridiculous.4) the current list price for this printer is several times what I paid at Sam's Club (approximately 225).
-----------------------------------------The 2600n insists you buy new toner cartridges after 2500 pages only if you leave the "Replace Supplies" setting on the default, "stop at out". At the current price of six fifty, it is a rip off (third party vendor price).Ultimately, for a cheap color networked laser printer, I think this is a very good deal. If Override out is selected, the printer will continueprinting when a cartridge reaches the recommended replacement point.
I print mostly black and white (text) and have experienced the disappearing color toner phenomenon frequently talked about here. I haven't had one that hasn't failed in a year or two. It does what it is supposed to do quite well.
I had the exact same printer and that is why I orderd one just like it and I am happy with this one as well even though it was display model and I paid the fraction of the cost.
For the most part you will have a HP printer longer then any other printer.Any network printer needs an IP address. A chip on the cartridges keeps track of how many pages have been printed while they are in the printer and will stop working even if you don't use any color after a cretin point. I'm a computer repair technician that has had many years in the field. Although it is an easy thing for the computer savvy, it is a royal pain in the tush for anyone else to set up.If you intend to print out mostly black and white but want the convince of the occasional color printout, don't get a color laser printer. If you need a printer that can print color pictures this printer is not for you. If it gets an address from DHCP, every time you try to print, your computer will need to find the printer on the network. In the case of this printer, the color cartridges will run out with out you ever using them.
For the most part, if you take a closer look at any printer today, the price of the printers are normally 125% the cost of replacing all the cartridges.This is a good printer if you set it up right and need the color. HP printers might not be the best in impressing me with the printouts it produces, but after a HP printer gets older it starts to shine. This way you have no choice but to go back and get new cartridges and toss out mostly full cartridges. If you are not sure what I am talking about then don't set it up your self or don't get a network printer. Any company that makes printers is basically giving you the printer as long as you keep buying the ink/toner from them. But if you mostly print black and white text pages this printer is not for you. If you have several computers in your home or office that can use it regularly then it is a dam good printer for the money.
color values aren't real great, but it will pick up thick laser label paper w/o trashing it.
